Working With MLFS

What areas do you serve?

Midwest Legal Field Services primarily serves the Twin Cities metro area and surrounding Minnesota counties. Outstate and rural service is available upon request and may be subject to adjusted pricing based on distance and time requirements.

How quickly are assignments acknowledged?

Assignments are reviewed and acknowledged promptly, typically the same business day. If additional information is required before attempts begin, this will be communicated clearly at the outset. Service is performed in accordance with written client instructions and applicable procedures.

How many attempts are included with routine service?

Routine service includes up to three service attempts at the address provided. Attempts are made at varied times when practicable. Additional attempts may be authorized and billed separately.

Do you guarantee service?

No. Service cannot be guaranteed. Midwest Legal Field Services provides professional diligence and documentation, not a guaranteed outcome. Courts recognize documented diligence whether service is successful or not.

What happens if documents are not successfully served?

If service is not completed, an Affidavit of Non-Service is issued documenting all attempts made, including dates, times, and factual observations. This documentation may assist counsel in determining next legal steps. Assignments are considered complete once authorized attempts have been made and documentation is provided, unless additional work is requested.

What documentation is provided after service?

Following service or non-service, MLFS provides a completed affidavit along with applicable attempt notes or confirmation records. Documentation is prepared with court filing standards in mind.

Do you offer skip tracing?

Yes. Skip tracing is available as an optional service and is performed only with client authorization. Skip tracing provides potential address leads and does not guarantee successful service.

How is skip tracing billed?

Skip tracing is billed separately from service attempts. Pricing depends on the level of tracing requested and is disclosed in advance. Results are provided to the client for review and direction.

If a new address is identified, is that a new charge?

Yes. Service at a newly identified address is treated as a new assignment and billed separately. New attempts begin at the new location, and a new affidavit of service or non-service is issued as applicable.

Do you handle rush or time-sensitive service?

Rush and time-sensitive service may be available depending on location and workload. Any adjusted pricing or timing considerations are communicated and authorized in advance.

How are rural or extended-distance assignments handled?

Rural or extended-distance assignments are quoted individually or billed at an adjusted rate based on mileage and time requirements. Any applicable adjustments are communicated prior to service.

Who will we communicate with during an assignment?

You will communicate directly with the individual handling your assignment. MLFS does not use portals, ticket systems, or layered handoffs. Updates are provided clearly and directly.

How and when are invoices issued?

Invoices are issued upon completion or closure of an assignment. Billing is ACH-only with NET-15 terms, unless otherwise agreed in advance. Invoices are clear, itemized, and consistent.

Do you provide legal advice or strategy recommendations?

No. Midwest Legal Field Services is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. All legal strategy and procedural decisions remain with counsel. Why this page exists This page is intended to provide transparency and reduce administrative friction by setting clear expectations at the outset. Our focus is on professional execution, reliable documentation, and predictable processes.
